UMC Social Principle

"All creation is the Lord's, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it. Water, air, soil, minerals, energy resources, plants, animal life, and space are to be valued and conserved because they are God's creation and not solely because they are useful to human beings. God has granted us stewardship of creation. We should meet these stewardship duties through acts of loving care and respect."

Creation Care

There are many small steps we can take to care for all of God's creation.

On this page we provide resources, suggestions, ideas, and a place to start.

Contact Pastor Pete for additional information or to suggest other steps.  He's also trying to link people, who have a passion for this topic, together to form a resource team at Advent.

Current Achievements

The team working on Creation Care initiatives at Advent celebrate the following achievements and invite others to join the effort.

  • Reduced Styrofoam: Through the generous donation of an Advent UMC family, reusable dishes have been purchased for dining events in the Christian Life Center.
  • Energy: Conservation efforts, including trial projects, are underway with an initial focus on reducing electricity usage.
  • Recycling: Recycling at Advent is expanding beyond the office to the Christian Life Center and to the classrooms in Hope Academy. The items included are white paper, plastics, and aluminum.

Advent Children Share Insights To Fresh Water

During our Wednesday Night Discipleship time, our children have been focusing on Creation Care. Our children learned that by being good stewards of the beautiful planet God created they can transform the world. Please take a few minutes to watch the video created by our children and learn how you, too, can be a good steward of the resources with which we have all been blessed.
