Disciple

Fall Offerings

Disciple Bible Study is being offered again this Fall at Advent.  Times and instructors are listed on our sign-up page.  Descriptions of the different classes are provided here for your review.

DBS (Disciple Bible Studies) are extended, small-group Bible studies. These studies begin in September and conclude in April and May. Each program is unique in what is studied, but all are similar in format and in their formation of Christian disciples. A major benefit of these Bible studies is the strong connection that is built between participants as the weeks pass.

Disciple I

Disciple I - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study - is a reading of the broad scope of the Bible. Participants will sample texts throughout the Bible and will complete the study with a better understanding of the overall story. Disciple 1 must be completed before a participant may take Disciples II, III, IV.  However  Disciple II, III, and IV may be taken in any order (they do not have to be taken sequentially).

Disciple II

Disciple II - Into the Word Into The World - concentrates on Geneses, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. It looks closely at the birth of the Hebrew Nation and the birth of the Christian Church. It emphasizes the rhythm of coming to God and going for God; of being in the Word and in the world individually and corporately.

Disciple III

Disciple III - Remember Who You Are - concentrates on the writings of the Prophets and the writings of Paul. It looks at the problems of Israel and the early Christian Church and the ways that Paul sought to instruct them by using the prophesies and wisdom of the Old Testament.

Paul and the Prophets help participants confront priority and obedience issues. These books focus on the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. The prophets and Paul continually call hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.” Using your past, this class will guide you and renew your vision for your spiritual walk.

Disciple IV

Disciple IV - Under The Tree Of Life -  concentrates on Old Testament Writings (including Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Daniel, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel) and the writings of John, including Revelation. The major theme of this study is the majesty of God in the walk of life.

The first part of this study examines the Writings of the Old Testament (non Torah or Prophets). The second part explores John and Revelation and proclaims that the book of Revelation is a message to embrace and a hope to anticipate. The final study in the Disciple series invites participants to His shelter and security and to rest in God’s love.
