"Yes, this is how God loved the world: He gave his only child; so that all people with faith in him can escape destruction and live a full life, now and forever." ~John 3:16

Fellowship & Leisure Ministries

Fellowship Ministries

The people of Advent participate in many fellowship activities.  Listed briefly below are some upcoming events.

Saint Nicholas Night

This yearly tradition ushers in the season of Advent.  Adults and children join together in the Sanctuary to sing Christmas carols and to hear from Saint Nicholas, a gift-giver who did his work so that no one ever saw him.

Children are invited to join Saint Nicholas in secret gift-giving to a local agency that reaches out to others.

Night of Epiphany

We gather for dinner and have an opportunity to consider the coming year and what gift we might offer the Christ child. We will also share king's cakes and learn how we've embraced that tradition as our own at Advent. Then we'll journey together, following the light to the sanctuary for prayer and reminder of Jesus' presence with us.

Leisure Ministries

The purpose of Advent's Leisure Ministry is "loving people into a relationship with Jesus Christ to change the world." We do this by providing those who share in similar interests, hobbies, sports and past-times an opportunity to fellowship in a safe and Christ-centered environment.

Leisure Fellowship Groups or LFGs give participants an opportunity to share something they enjoy with others while being encouraged in their relationship with Jesus Christ. During LFG events, a prayer, devotion or testimony is shared and lives can be changed. It's during our recreation that we can be transformed and re-created.

Basketball

Children of all ages (young and old) have the opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends and compete with other churches in the Greenville area who participate in the Greenville District United Methodist Church Recreation Association (GDUMCRA.) Registrations are held in September; practices begin in November.

Free Spirit

Our more mature adults gather monthly in the leisure fellowship group known as Free Spirit.  Enjoying each other's company, they have picnic dinners at local club houses, travel together to visit restaurants, taken in cultural events, and have dinner together at the church building.  Everyone is welcomed.  Watch for announcements of upcoming events.
