Disciple Bible Study is Advent's introductory Bible study. It is a study designed to develop strong local churches through the in-depth study of scripture. Its purpose is two-fold: to strengthen believers in their faith and to guide them toward service and ministry. When registering for these Disciple Groups, you are signing up to join the small group, not just study the curriculum. The group members' commitment includes about thirty minutes daily in preparation for the weekly study session and participation in the weekly session. The most productive groups are those who covenant together to study, prepare, attend and participate.
Disciple is offered on Sunday evenings and nursery care is available. Groups begin September 11.
DISCIPLE I
facilitated by Ken Moore
Sundays 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is a 34-week overview of the Bible. Beginning with Genesis and continuing through Revelation, participants will read approximately 80% of the Bible during this life-changing study. Participants have daily assignments in the Bible and study manual and they discuss these assignments in their weekly group meeting.
DISCIPLE II
facilitated by Pat Barton
Sundays 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Into the Word Into the World encourages persons to open themselves to hearing what God has to say to them through the Bible and to be guided into service in the world by scripture and their study of it. Equal attention is given to both the Old and New Testament with concentration on four books: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts (eight lessons on each book). Appropriate connections are made to other parts of scripture both through reading and study assignments and through commentary in the study manual. A 32-week study.
DISCIPLE III
Remember Who You Are - This thirty-two week study makes a connection between memory and identity as the people of God. Several themes weave their way through the study: the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. Sixteen sessions are devoted to the major and minor Old Testament prophets, excluding Daniel. The second sixteen sessions cover the thirteen letters traditionally attributed to Paul. A 32-week study.
DISCIPLE IV
facilitated by Ruth Arrington
Sundays 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Under the Tree of Life concentrates on the writings in the Old Testament: Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel. New Testament scriptures include the Gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; James; Jude; and Revelation. Present though the entire study is the sense of living toward completion, toward the climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in the Revelation. A 32-week study.
