Music at Advent

Psalm 147 states clearly that we are to praise God through music: “Praise ye the Lord, for it is good to sing praises unto our God” (Psalm 147:1)

At Advent United Methodist Church, music is an integral and essential part of both the ministry and the spiritual development of the church.  Through musical training for children, youth, and adults we strive to develop worship leadership which enhances and expands the worshiper’s awareness of the presence and grace of God.  We seek to offer musical opportunities for various age groups through which individuals may use their gifts in service through music.   We welcome you to be a part of a music ministry which celebrates the abundance of God’s gifts and reaffirms music’s inspirational, nurturing, and edifying role in our spiritual lives.

Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is comprised of adult men and women who love to sing God's praises. This choir leads worship at the 11:00 a.m. service and also presents several major musical services each year. This choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm. There are no auditions, and the only requirement is that you love the Lord and that you love to sing. While always working toward excellence, this is a volunteer choir and new members are welcome at any time. If you have questions, please contact Elizabeth Blair, Director of Music Ministries.

Smooth Stones
Our praise and worship ensemble is a group of musicians who lead worship using voices, instruments, and contemporary music. This group has a flexible rehearsal schedule.. Let Elizabeth know if you are interested in playing or singing with Smooth Stones.

"Son-Rise" Singers
Usually every two weeks our  8:45 worship service is led by the "Son-Rise" Singers.  Singing more contemporary anthems, this group rehearses two Sunday nights each month and at 8:00 the mornings they are singing..  We would love to have a few more enthusiastic (morning-people!) singers to join us!  If you have any questions, please contact Elizabeth.

Sons of Thunder
This group of male vocalists, named after the nickname for the sons of Zebede, joins to sing for special occasions.  Denny Goodin leads this group, with flexible rehearsals leading up to each time they lead worship.

Instrumental Ensemble
All youth and adults who play instruments are encouraged to offer their talents in leading worship, or accompanying the choirs, or in providing leadership at other church events.

Adult Hand Bells
Over the years we have been blessed with the addition of a four- octave set of English Hand Bells. Our adult hand bell ensemble, led by Jane Smith,  rehearses on Sunday evening from 7-8:00.  If you find that hand bell music is a particular blessing to you, contact Elizabeth Blair or Jane Smith.
